We’re putting down roots…

(…root vegetables, and more.)

Somewhere over the rainbow

On a little plot in central Maui, we cleared rocks and weeds and mowed down the prolific six-foot sorghum grass and worked it into the soil.

We formed raised beds in neat rows and configured an irrigation system of headers, pressure regulators, shut-off valves, and drip lines.

We made a crop plan and planted thousands of seeds in trays and fostered their growth in the nursery.

The seeds begin to sprout.

The earth gives life

We planted thousands more seeds directly into the ground and we’re consistently transplanting seedlings from trays.

There seems to be an infinite amount of things one can learn when watching plants grow.

We find ourselves growing with the plants as we work long days in the field often before sunrise and sometime through sunset.

And we are growing.

It’s not always easy

Some days it feels like we are inching along as slow as this hungry hungry caterpillar.

Pests are, by definition, pestilent. We’re still learning how to identify and deal with them. It can be discouraging to feel outwitted by a bug.

We’ve turned weeding into a meditation, practicing good posture and breath. As we pull pounds upon pounds of invasive plants, our backs are getting stronger.

And the yield is abundant.

let’s connect

We’re cultivating a wide variety of edible, medicinal, and aesthetic plants. If you’re interested in fresh produce or would like to discuss a potential collaboration, please contact us. We'd love to connect with you.

Thank you for reading.

We’ll post another update soon enough.

Meanwhile, can you guess what we have in most common with a cow?

You’ll often find us both out standing in our fields.

Aloha.
